Advanced tissue-repair products from biomaterials that contain a naturally occurring extracellular matrix (ECM).

The biomaterial used is derived from porcine small intestinal submucosa (SIS), a naturally extracellular matrix located between the mucosal and muscular layers of small intestine.

SIS is a durable collagen material that is isolated from porcine intestine. When used for soft-tissue repair, SIS provides a natural scaffold that allows the body to restore itself through site-specific tissue remodeling.

The unique properties allow the biological graft to integrate with the recipient’s tissue and cells to ultimately form vascularised, organized tissue structure that resembles the natural tissue structure and architecture

ECM structure and function:

While the composition of the ECM varies by tissue, there are generally four groups of components:

  • Structural proteins, such as collagen and elastin, that provide the main structural framework in ECM
  • Glycoproteins that help bind cells to the collagen
  • Glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans that keep the matrix well hydrated by absorbing water and binding growth factors

All these components together create an environment that allows cells in the body to secrete growth factors and replicate whilst playing vital roles in supporting cell function.
